SUMMER PREP DURING COVID-19 CRISIS
Hey Mike and Cam here! March has always meant to me “camp prep!” But in light of COVID-19 we need to make sure we are keeping pace and setting our students and volunteers up for a great summer.
Understand the details of your contracts
…as it relates to MONEY and Dates. When can you cancel, and what is the cost of canceling. Maybe, everyone will play nice and give all your money back but you are liable for what it says in the contract you agreed to.
-
…Remember your bus and van contracts
…don’t be silent on this! Make a call and discuss.
If you have questions give the camp, agency, or t-shirt company a call, but remember if it ain’t in writing you only have their memory of your conversation. So, follow-up with an email confirming what you agreed on in a phone conversation.
Have these conversations:
…with parents, You need to let parents know what is happening
You might know the details but you can let them know where you stand, “Hey Mom, we are still plan on going to camp!”
…with church treasure or pastor- How are the finances at this point. Has anything changed. Is the money still there to help pay for camp.
…with your van rental company and t-shirts company
…with your leaders, make sure they are still planning and preparing for camp
…with your leaders to make sure you have met all the standards of your Child Protection Policy
…about looking for a week later in the summer if you are not locked into week 1 or 2
Remember as you have these conversations…
…You do not have to have all the answers, yet. Just communicate that you are active and focused. Communicate the idea to your student’s parents and your church. “We are still planning and preparing to go to camp. And we need your help to help us get ready!”
The answer to uncertainty is not certainty, it is clarity. - Will Mancini
This is a great opportunity to remind parents of their responsibility to disciple their kids.
…When as you make change you get to clarify what is important. Take this opportunity to clarify what is important about camp, discipleship and leaders.
